Rodent Control in Nob Hill and the University Area
Nob Hill sits just east of the University of New Mexico, roughly between Girard and Washington, Lomas and Zuni. It was built mostly between 1925 and 1950 as the city grew east along Central Avenue, which became Route 66 in 1937. The Nob Hill Business Center at Central and Carlisle went up in 1947 as the city's first modern shopping center.
Older houses, lots of rentals and a busy commercial strip add up to a steady run of house mouse calls.
Houses approaching a hundred years old
After this many decades, plenty of these houses have open seams: around original windows, where additions meet the old walls, at the foundation, and at vents and crawl space openings. Mice come in low and spread through the walls. Sealing and trapping go together. See rodent exclusion.
Rentals and apartments
If you rent, tell your landlord or manager in writing. For multi-unit buildings inside city limits, the City of Albuquerque's Urban Biology Division takes complaints through 311 if management hasn't acted within 10 days of written notice. For a single-family rental, the city says to work with private pest control.
Shops and restaurants along Central share walls and alleys. Owners should look at commercial rodent control.
