Rodent Control in the South Valley

LandmarksIsleta Blvd, Bridge Blvd, Rio Grande, Arenal Road

The South Valley is an unincorporated part of Bernalillo County south of Albuquerque's city limits. Voters turned down becoming a city in 2010. The Rio Grande runs through it, and irrigation ditches and drains cross the neighborhoods.

Gardens, small farms, chickens and older homes on bigger lots bring a lot of mouse activity, especially when the weather cools.

Coops, gardens and feed

Chicken feed is mouse food. Store it in a metal can, keep the coop floor clean and pick up spilled feed at night. Gardens and fruit trees help too once they're done for the year: clear the leftovers so there's less to eat when mice are looking for winter quarters.

Older homes and outbuildings

Older adobe and frame homes, sheds and garages need the gaps closed. Before cleaning a closed-up shed, air it out and follow the droppings cleanup steps. Then have the shed and the house sealed: see rodent exclusion.

Local question

Does the county do rodent control for homes?

The City of Albuquerque says it doesn't provide rodent control for homes and points people to private pest control. That's what this line connects you with.
